Alliance for Energy Transition between CEDHA and Rotary International

The environmental foundation and Rotary International District 4851 will work together to promote a just energy transition in Salta, Jujuy, and Catamarca, among other shared goals.

The Center for Human Rights and Environment (CEDHA) and Rotary International District 4851 Foundation signed an agreement in the city of Mendoza to establish an alliance for a just energy transition, education and cultural exchange, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and the implementation of internships focused on environmental protection, human rights, the right to identity, gender rights, and community rights. The agreement also includes the promotion of scientific and tourism development, and cultural exchange.

Founded in 1999, CEDHA is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to environmental and human rights law, with the goal of building a more harmonious relationship between people and the environment. The institution works in synergy with universities, governments, the private sector, civil society organizations, and scientific institutions, currently focusing its efforts on the climate emergency. CEDHA recently received international funding to carry out a project supporting a just energy transition in Argentina, with a special focus on lithium and affected communities.

For its part, Rotary International District 4851 conducts educational activities, training, and sponsors international cultural exchanges through the Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) program, promoting global understanding and intercultural learning among youth.

Commitments

As part of the alliance, both parties agreed to promote the exchange of information, education, and training. Rotary District 4851 will carry out its international youth exchange program to broaden the cultural and educational horizons of participants, while CEDHA may provide financial support for District 4851’s activities aimed at advancing a just energy transition in the provinces of Salta, Jujuy, and Catamarca.

The specific details of such contributions will be established through additional complementary agreements.

The agreement will remain in effect for two years and will be governed by principles of good faith and mutual trust, without requiring the disbursement of assets, funds, or resources, except as expressly agreed upon in complementary agreements.

The joint initiative was formalized by Dr. Juan Miguel Picolotti, Executive Director of CEDHA, and Joel Jonathan Salvatierra Ramos, Governor of District 4851.

Also in attendance, underlining the importance of the initiative, were Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick, RI Zone 23B Director Henrique Vasconcelos, incoming District 4851 Governor Joel Salvatierra, and Leonardo Mangoldt.
